Around Nerja
Nerja is surrounded by pretty white villages synonymous with Andalucia. The nearest of these is Frigiliana, a 5 minute drive into the mountains. Frigiliana is an extremely pretty village with narrow, winding streets full of shops and bars. www.idealspain.com/Pages/Places/Frigiliana.htm
An hour’s drive from Nerja is the Moorish city of Granada, which has been voted the most beautiful city to visit by many tourists. Within the town lie so many places of interest you will never see them all. Most of them are of Moorish origins. At Torre del Mar which is 10 minutes drive away, you will find Aquavelis a large water park. www.casacarmencita/aquavelis.htm.
Opposite the water park you will find El Ingenio Shopping Centre where you will find a hypermarket, large array of fashion and designer outlets
(including Marks & Spencers), food outlets and leisure area including multiscreen cinema, indoor bowling and bars.
For GOLF you will find 2 courses in the area, the nearest which as about 15 minutes drive is Baviera Golf which is an 18 hole golf course designed by José María Cañizares, the prestigious professional golfer. www.bavieragolf.com. Please Note: handicap certificates are required.
The other course Los Moriscos Golf Club is about 30 minutes drive and is found on the the Costa Granada near Motril. This course is probably more suitable for beginners and there are no requirements for handicap certificates etc. and clubs can be hired. www.moriscosgolf.com
The Sierra Nevada Ski Resort is 32 kilometers south east of Granada and about a 90 minute drive away from Nerja. It is the southernmost ski resort in Europe and held the World Alpine Ski Championships in 1996. The resort is easily reached and has local bus and taxi services running from Granada and Nerja. The resort offers a total of 19 lifts in various forms and ideally is a resort for beginners and intermediates in both skiing and snowboarding and also offers a selection of other snow activities. www.idealspain.com/Pages/Places/SierraNevada.htm
